Building Extreme Weather Resiliency in North Carolina
March 20, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThe impacts of climate change are felt not only in the changing of Earth’s temperature but in the effects of extreme weather: record-breaking heat waves, floods, droughts, thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes are following an increased trend in frequency and intensity.
Duke University and Duke Health are engaging in purposeful partnerships with state and community leaders across North Carolina to better understand these new trends and impacts of extreme weather, and how best to bolster the state’s resiliency.
Join us at our first Duke in DC event of the year on March 20th for dinner and a moderated panel of Duke and North Carolinian experts to learn about their work and impact across the state of North Carolina including through Duke’s Climate Commitment, grassroots resiliency efforts from local organizations, statewide resilience planning, ongoing climate and agriculture research, and how our experts helped create the blueprint for hospital emergency management plans not only in North Carolina, but nationwide.
The panel discussion will be preceded by a cocktail reception and succeeded by a catered dinner and networking. Please RSVP by Wednesday, March 13.
Speakers Include:
- Dr. Niroj Aryal, Ph. D., Interim Chair and Associate Professor of Biological Engineering, North Carolina A&T State University
